Lil Uzi Vert recently revealed that his $24 million diamond forehead implant was torn out by a fan during his performance at Rolling Loud.
Rolling Loud is one of the largest hip-hop music festivals in the world. After canceling last year amid the coronavirus pandemic, the festival went ahead with its 2021 edition held in Miami on July 23-25th. Its headliners included ASAP Rocky, Travis Scott, and Post Malone, with plenty of other acts filling in the gap, like Lil Uzi Vert, who performed on Saturday.
Unfortunately, the rapper recently opened up about the experience and how things didn’t go as planned. In fact, Lil Uzi Vert met with an unfortunate accident during the performance when his forehead implant became dislodged thanks to a rambunctious concertgoer.
Speaking to TMZ, Lil Uzi Vert claimed an overly enthusiastic fan “ripped it out” of his head after the rapper jumped into the crow. He managed to hang on to the diamond during the commotion, despite being physically injured.
“I still have the diamond, so I feel good,” Lil Uzi Vert said.
Entertainment Tonight reports that the performer opened up about his infamous forehead implant in January. In a post made to Twitter, Lil Uzi Vert explained he felt inspired to get the stone surgically implanted in his head after seeing a “natural pink diamond” for the first time.
“That was the first time I saw a real natural pink diamond,” he tweeted.
The diamond is reportedly worth $24 million, and the rapper admitted he had been paying off the gem since getting it in 2017. Lil Uzi Vert has a net worth of approximately $16 million, making his forehead jewelry worth more than all of his assets combined.
In February, Lil Uzi Vert’s jeweler, Simon Babaev, who works for New York-based jewelry company Elianette & Co., discussed with Rolling Stone the process the rapper underwent to have the implant installed. Babaev admitted it was the first time he’d been requested to implant a diamond onto a forehead (the closest he came before this was a diamond implant on Young Thug’s face).
Babaev explained that a forehead implant is as safe as any other sort of piercing, so long as it’s properly maintained. The jeweler's team had to create custom clips that locked the implant into place on Lil Uzi's forehead, though the rapper’s encounter at Rolling Loud proves it’s not indestructible.
TMZ notes that while Lil Uzi Vert still has the diamond in his possession, he’s since switched the facial piercing to a standard barbell. The entertainer didn’t suffer any permanent damage from the incident.
The outlet adds this isn’t the first time the rapper has removed the implant. He had it taken out prior to the music festival but had it re-installed for the performance, which in retrospect, proved to be an ill-fated move.
